Uganda's President signs controversial anti-gay law

(CNN) -- Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has signed into law a bill that toughens penalties against gay people and defines some homosexual acts as crimes punishable by life in prison.
Homosexual acts are already illegal in Uganda, and Museveni had gone back and forth recently about whether he would sign the controversial bill in the face of vocal opposition from the West.
At the public signing of the bill Monday, a defiant Museveni declared that he would not allow the West to impose its values on Uganda.
"We have been disappointed for a long time by the conduct of the West, the way you conduct yourselves there," he told CNN's Zain Verjee in Entebbe. "Our disappointment is now exacerbated because we are sorry to see that you live the way you live, but we keep quiet about it. Now you say 'you must also live like us' -- that's where we say no."

To be a homosexual is universal; it's an issue that concerns both people living in the West and the East. Gays & Lesbians should be given their rightS to live their own way, as long as they are not doing any harm to their society or people around them. Let the prison be to criminals, terrorists, pedophils, rapists, sexists AND homophobics like Uganda's president. I can't understand how this man is thinking. His arguments are just so weak and don't go hand-in-hand with humanrights. Did this president chose to be heterosexual??!! I'm sure he didn't and so didn't homosexual people chose to be the way they are. I hope the worldwide humanrights associations won't stay silent about the passage of such a homophobic bill and let everyone know how LGBT are suffering in such backward and underdevelopped countries such as Uganda, Morocco, etc..
